As Ned Stark of Game of Thrones quite famously said, “Winter is coming.” And rightfully so, winter is indeed coming. It is without a doubt that winter is an interesting season. Life seems to have slowed down a bit and all we want to do is lie down and do nothing at all. I wish that were possible. I really do. Regardless, many people move to places with a wintery climate.
It is a drastic change, especially for those who have lived out a major share of their lives in a place that is relatively hotter. This means a lot of things. It means saying goodbye to summer leisure activities, outdoor sports, having a cold one buddies, and of course those cute summer outfits that you so dearly adore. Instead, you will have to get used to heavy overcoats, boots that seem like an elephant’s foot, and layers and layers of warm clothes.
Honestly speaking, being a person who has moved in to a much colder place, I can tell how hard it can be for someone who has no idea how to go about things. On top of that, extremely cold places are not ideally the most cheerful places. Well, I thought it was high time I help out my fellow people and spread my own wisdom on this issue. Below are the top things you need to keep in mind when moving to a much colder location. Have a read –
- Have Appropriate Winter Clothes- There are no second thoughts when it comes to this one. Winter clothing is an absolute must. And by winter clothing I am not referring to those cute sweaters made of cashmere wool. I am referring to heavy duty woolen and leather jackets which will provide complete insulation from the extreme cold temperatures. Emphasize especially on the overcoat. It should be preferably long up to the knees, heavy, thick, have many pockets and most importantly have a hood. Along with this, you should also invest in woolen socks, woolen scarfs, mufflers, and woolen inners. The importance of woolen clothes cannot be expressed enough. If you are looking for a sale, wait until after Christmas. The January and February sales are really good when it comes to buying good woolen clothes at lower prices. Also, make sure you arrange these clothes before you book moving services as it may lead to you forgetting to arrange clothes altogether.
- Boots, Boots, Boots!- If your new location experiences snow falls, it is recommended that you invest in a nice pair of boots. But no! Not the cute and good looking ones. The ones which make you look like you just came out of a cave. Boots are quintessential when it comes to living in snowy regions. The ice won’t let you travel even 10 yards without making you slip at least twice. The boots will give you grip and keep your feet from falling off from the cold. Make sure your boots are thick, have a rubber sole, and are warm enough.
- Ensure Safety- Wintery regions have another thing that you might want to worry about. It is the increased chances of hazards due to, well, the cold. There are endless things that can happen due to the slippery roads, an abundance of snow, and lack of traction in general. Therefore, it is important to be aware of your surroundings at all times, especially while driving or riding.
- Optimize Your Cars- That being said, it is also important to remember that a change in climate can also translate to a change in driving or riding conditions. This calls for a need to optimize your car or motorcycle as per the climate of the location you might be moving to. If you do not have an idea where to go about, ask your packers and movers as they might have useful insight.
